Normal birth, in most instances, is better for women and better for babies. Concern has been raised regarding rising intervention rates, particularly Caesarean section. Promoting Normal Birth is a project at Waitemata District Health Board, Auckland, New Zealand, as part of the Maternity Quality and Safety Programme. Although only running for under one year, there have been practice changes of interest to an international audience. This presentation describes the project steps taken thus far and outlines the plan going forward. Robust discussion is anticipated.
